A Cowley Road establishment serving American cuisine has received the lowest possible food safety score from local authorities.
Rick’s Diner, situated in the Cowley area, was awarded one out of five stars by environmental health officials from Oxford City Council during a scheduled inspection conducted in March.
Inspectors determined that “major improvement” was required, assigning the establishment the bottom rating on the food hygiene scale.
The primary concern raised during the recent evaluation centered on food safety management protocols—the procedures designed to guarantee meals are safe for consumption—which officials classified as needing “major improvement.”
However, the inspection report noted that the cleanliness and maintenance of the premises, along with food preparation practices, were deemed “generally satisfactory.”
The dining venue offers morning meals alongside an extensive menu featuring American-style burgers, chicken wings, chicken tenders and fried chicken.
In 2022, the business submitted plans to expand into the unit at 90 High Street, with a planning application filed to occupy the space previously held by Patisserie Valerie.
