A falafel stand in Oxford has been issued with another one-star food hygiene rating.

Najar’s Place, situated in St Giles’ area of Oxford, received the lowest possible score from Oxford City Council environmental health inspectors during a scheduled assessment.

Officers determined that ‘major improvement’ was required, awarding the establishment just one out of five stars for food hygiene.

The primary concern uncovered during the most recent inspection related to food safety management – specifically the procedures implemented to guarantee the food served is safe for consumption, which were judged to need ‘major improvement’.

Nevertheless, inspectors noted that the cleanliness and overall condition of the premises, along with food handling practices, were deemed ‘generally satisfactory’.

This occurs subsequent to the establishment receiving a one-star rating in 2017, when criticism was levelled for having ‘a curtain for a toilet door’ and ‘thick accumulations of dirt and food debris’.

The Lebanese and Mediterranean-inspired kiosk offers falafels, falafel wraps and halloumi.
