Initiative uses audio programme to motivate people with Parkinson’s to keep moving

A new podcast series is allowing people with Parkinson’s disease to keep fit at home.

The charity Parkinson’s UK has partnered with audio production firm Soundyard to launch On the Move, a scheme designed to help those impacted by Parkinson’s stay healthy throughout 2026.

The audio programme, available via Spotify and other streaming platforms, features guided exercise classes suitable for completion whether seated or standing.

Anna Castiaux, who works as physical activity programme lead at Parkinson’s UK, said On the Move serves as a valuable resource for people with Parkinson’s to exercise and enjoy life throughout 2026.

The exercise routines have all been designed to be performed either in someone’s own home or while away.

She hopes that more opportunities arise for people living with Parkinson’s, or those connected to the condition, to become more physically active.

The eight-episode collection is led by fitness instructor Sonya Powley and is suitable for individuals of all ages and ability levels who have Parkinson’s.

The sessions concentrate on gentle movement and aim to build self-assurance, including various low to moderate intensity exercises focusing on movements carried out while sitting or standing.

The episodes encourage listeners to improve their balance, body awareness, and overall confidence through regular physical activity.

Parkinson’s is a complex, progressive neurological disorder with over 40 symptoms, including tremor, pain, and mental health issues. Unfortunately, no cure exists at present.

Someone in the UK receives a Parkinson’s diagnosis every 20 minutes.

The podcast also connects with Parkinson’s UK’s wider physical activity media collection, which includes additional resources designed to encourage participation in physical activities.
