A residential care home in Witney has been subject to a regulatory review after worries were raised about the standard of its services.
Richmond Villages, situated on Coral Springs Way in Witney, underwent assessment by the Care Quality Commission following the submission of concerns about the establishment.
The review found that the home required enhancement across multiple domains, including safety protocols, operational performance, and leadership supervision.
One person living at the residence told inspectors that staff would sometimes enter rooms, switch off call bells, say they would come back shortly, and then either not return or leave residents waiting as long as an hour during hectic periods.
The facility provides nursing services for older people and younger adults who need support with dementia, medical nursing requirements, and physical disabilities. Regulators concluded the home had breached obligations concerning appropriate administrative and governance arrangements.
The results, published in April 2025, highlighted shortcomings in how accidents and incidents were being documented, with inadequate implementation of corrective measures to stop comparable events recurring.
Furthermore, records showed that team members were not reliably carrying out mental capacity assessments and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards paperwork as mandated.
Records relating to care plans and evaluations of risks to residents’ wellbeing and safety were frequently incomplete or missing from files, the assessment noted.
Both those living at the home and staff members highlighted concerns about the speed at which call bells were answered and whether workforce numbers were sufficient, suggesting help was not always forthcoming when requested.
On a encouraging note, inspectors found that medication administration was handled correctly and that staff had undergone proper recruitment procedures and training.
A recently appointed manager had started introducing approaches to strengthen team cooperation and operational methods.
