The following cases were heard at Oxford Magistrates’ Court:
David Lazell, aged 47 and residing at Long Ford Close in Downend, admitted to one charge of shoplifting items valued at £9.24 from a store in Oxford on October 25 the previous year. The court mandated payment of £85 in legal costs along with £9.24 in compensation to the victim.
Joao Da Silva, aged 53 and living on Cowley Road in Headington, Oxford, pleaded guilty to using threatening, abusive, and insulting language with the intention of causing fear or provoking unlawful violence in Oxford on February 18 of this year. He was ordered to pay £85 in costs, a £26 victim surcharge, and received a 12-month conditional discharge.
Zywai Nyahoda, aged 36 with no fixed address, admitted to 21 charges of shoplifting committed across multiple stores in Oxford between August the previous year and March this year, with stolen goods totaling £2,410.61. He also pleaded guilty to one count of failing to appear for police bail in High Wycombe on February 13 this year. The court imposed a two-week prison sentence suspended for 18 months, along with a requirement to complete 12 months of drug rehabilitation treatment and attend up to 20 appointments as directed by his supervisor. He must also pay £1,554 in compensation.
Jamel Willett, aged 39 and residing on Oxford Road in Cowley, Oxford, admitted to possessing a knife as an offensive weapon in a private location in Oxford on July 23 the previous year. He was ordered to pay £85 in costs and a £114 victim surcharge, complete 60 hours of community service within 12 months, and the weapon was ordered to be destroyed.
Jamie Clark, aged 36 and living on Clarence Road in Henley-on-Thames, pleaded guilty to eight charges of shoplifting items worth £7,518 in total from stores in Henley between March and April this year. He also admitted to stealing from a vehicle in Bicester on January 20 this year and two charges of criminal damage in Henley on March 29 and April 2 this year. He received an eight-month prison sentence.
Alex Marshall, aged 30 with no fixed address, admitted to assault causing actual bodily harm, criminal damage, and assault by beating in Carterton on February 10 this year. He was sentenced to 10 months in prison and ordered to pay a £187 victim surcharge. Additionally, he was prohibited from visiting a specific address in Carterton while under the influence of drugs or alcohol for a period of two years.
Ayman Mohammed, aged 20 and residing at Morris Crescent in Oxford, was convicted of assaulting a police officer and two counts of assault by beating in Oxford on July 29 the previous year. The court ordered him to pay £200 in costs, a £114 victim surcharge, and £300 in compensation. He must also comply with his supervisor’s requirements to attend appointments for up to 10 days and complete 120 hours of unpaid work within 12 months.
Ethan Carr, aged 25 and living at Woodrush Gardens in Carterton, pleaded guilty to driving while over the alcohol limit in a BMW M135I on Upwood Drive in Carterton on November 8 the previous year, with a reading of 113 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath. He was ordered to pay £85 in costs, a £382 victim surcharge, and a fine of £956. He also received 10 penalty points on his driving license.
