The site for an upcoming Gail’s Bakery location in Banbury has been uncovered as construction commences on the new cafe premises, following widespread speculation throughout the town regarding its potential whereabouts.

Guesses have circulated regarding the precise spot where the well-known artisan coffee and bakery brand Gail’s would establish its latest Banbury location.

These conjectures emerged subsequent to employment listings for positions at the new cafe suggesting the business would be arriving in the Oxfordshire town, although the specific workplace address remained undisclosed.

Now, a building control submission for work to refit the new location filed with Cherwell District Council has provided additional information.

Gail’s Ltd requested permission to renovate unit 17 at Banbury Gateway on Acorn Way in Banbury to create a ‘Gail’s Bakery Coffee Shop’, according to the filing.

It will occupy the space previously held by Starbucks, which shut its doors last October after ten years of operation from the retail park.

The establishment was positioned between The Works and McDonalds and opened its doors in October 2015.

Starbucks chose not to provide an explanation for the closure but stated they ‘regularly evaluate’ their locations for market relevance.

The initial notification for the Gail’s Bakery construction work was approved by the council with operations scheduled to commence on Wednesday, April 22.

A launch date for the new cafe has not been disclosed as of yet.

Gail’s Bakery was contacted but opted not to provide any commentary regarding the new venture.
