More than 500 athletes took part in the White Horse Half Marathon this past Sunday, March 29.
The annual event marked its 41st edition, winding through the picturesque Vale of the White Horse with both start and finish lines located in Grove.
Participants traveled through the charming villages of Denchworth, Lyford, and Charney Bassett along a course that has remained consistent over the years and is recognized for enabling runners to achieve their best times.
The race reached full capacity with 500-plus competitors, assisted by approximately 80 volunteer marshals.
Athletes spanned from their late teens to those over 80 years old, benefiting from the protection and assistance offered by committed volunteers.
The command center was established at St John’s Primary School in Grove, where helpers managed event operations, marked the route, distributed refreshments, and provided essential water stations to runners.
The White Horse Harriers Athletics Club, responsible for hosting the race, also thanked numerous local supporters, including TFD Gym Health and Fitness, Olivia Pile for designing the mug, Jimmy Blackshaw for contributing spot prizes, and Hendred Vineyard for supplying bottles of their Hendred Brut sparkling wine.
With the race now concluded, organizers are already making arrangements for their upcoming summer event, the Uffington White Horse Gallop, scheduled for Sunday, July 26.
This demanding off-road half-marathon traverses the hills and pathways of the Ridgeway overlooking Wantage, treating participants to stunning vistas of the Vale of the White Horse.
