A venue praised as a hidden gem by celebrated Cotswold chef Rick Stein has entered liquidation proceedings.

The 79-year-old culinary figure was born in Churchill, Chipping Norton and spent his childhood on an Oxfordshire farm.

His commercial ventures have expanded significantly since departing the region, with four establishments based in Cornwall alone.

An additional venue operates on the exclusive Sandbanks stretch in Dorset, alongside other ventures throughout southern England.

Stein has sampled numerous dining establishments during his global travels, with Fang Dumpling House in Sydney, Australia standing out as a particular favourite.

The Sydney outlet was described by the Daily Mail as Cremorne’s best-kept secret and a hidden gem, with the Cotswold chef naming it his favourite hometown restaurant in 2023.

Yet the publication now reports the company has entered liquidation after appearing on the ASIC liquidation register.

The Daily Mail noted that diners from across the city made their way to Fang for satisfying, generous portions, with many describing it as dumpling heaven.

Loyal patrons have already started grieving the loss of their beloved meals and a community staple that once held cherished memories.

This development follows another of Stein’s preferred Australian venues, The Oaks Hotel pub, being offloaded in a deal worth 140 million Australian dollars.
