The celebrity chef has faced online criticism over his collection of frozen dishes currently on sale at retailers.
The television personality and frozen provisions have shared a lengthy and complex relationship.
Previously, the UK’s most high-profile cook had been vocal in his disapproval of meals prepared in microwaves, making this new business move appear somewhat contradictory.
Despite this, in 2023 Ramsay launched his inaugural range of chilled preparations, encompassing dishes from rice-based Italian specialities to comfort classics.
Jump ahead three years, and a number of customers have expressed dissatisfaction with the standard of the products.
Under a social media post displaying the packaging of Ramsay’s lasagne alongside the actual dish, one user remarked that their expectations had not merely been met but thoroughly exceeded in the negative sense.
Another individual observed that a YouTube creator they occasionally follow, who had dined at Gordon Ramsay’s establishments, had highlighted how substandard the quality was there, adding that replicating this pattern with ready-made frozen offerings was surprising for someone whose career was significantly built on improving ailing restaurants.
A separate commenter suggested that the man himself differs from the commercial enterprise, noting that people fail to grasp this distinction and instead imagine miniature versions of him preparing every dish rather than some unremarkable relative who attended what they termed culinary academy.
A response countered that maintaining his reputation is central to the matter, explaining that someone of his standing attaching his name and likeness to such products establishes expectations for quality, particularly given that his personal brand represents one of the most influential culinary figures of contemporary times, and that while the individual and the business entity are indeed separate, his face and name remain plastered across everything, which is precisely what consumers observe, treating his identity as a guarantee of superior standards compared to competing brands, and that this undermines his standing when the brand produces inferior merchandise.
Not everyone was negative, however.
One person commented favourably on the appearance, offering to take any unwanted portions.
This was quickly followed by a request for their address.
Are Ramsay’s frozen dishes sold in Britain?
No.
And according to numerous British social media users who viewed the post, many expressed relief that this was the case.
His selection of premium frozen dishes is limited to American retailer Walmart, featuring hearty options such as Lemon Caper Chicken, Bolognese Lasagna, and Four Cheese Macaroni.
These generally retail at approximately $5.94 to $7 per box.
