Car fire on M40 near Watlington extinguished by three fire crews

Fire crews were dispatched after a vehicle caught fire on a major road in Oxfordshire.

The fire took place between exits 5 and 6 of the motorway close to Watlington at approximately 6.30pm on Tuesday (March 24).

Nobody was hurt in the blaze, though an image given to this publication displays the car ablaze on the roadside.

A total of three fire appliances attended the scene, remaining there for slightly less than an hour before leaving at 7.30pm.

These included crews from Thame Fire Station and Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service due to the fire’s proximity to the county boundary.

An Oxfordshire County Council Fire and Rescue Service representative confirmed on Wednesday (March 25) that they were called on Tuesday, March 24 at 6.35pm, sending a fire engine from Thame Fire Station. Two were also sent from neighbouring Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service to the M40, junction 6 to 5. Crews extinguished a car fire using a hose reel jet.
