A compelling story from the Second World War era is set to be shared at a local community venue.

The Florence Park Community Centre in Oxford will welcome Charlotte Ellis, who will speak about her grandmother Antonia Hunt’s experiences. Hunt endured five years concealed in Nazi-controlled France during the conflict.

In 1939, at just 14 years old, Hunt became parted from her mother and father in Brittany as German armoured forces arrived in Quimper.

She largely existed in Paris, depending on her resourcefulness and sharp awareness, and at some stage found herself detained by the secret police.

Ellis will narrate episodes involving love affairs, Hitler’s paramilitary troops and the French underground movement, drawing from her grandmother’s memoir Little Resistance. The presentation is scheduled for Wednesday, April 8 at 7.15pm.
