Motorists are facing significant disruption in Oxford today as fresh highway work gets underway, with the project expected to continue for over a week.

Temporary multi-way signals have been erected along Banbury Road in the northern section near Cutteslowe, spanning the stretch between Jordan Hill and Five Mile Drive.

The scheme is being carried out by power provider Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks to lay a new connection.

The lights were switched on Monday 23 March, shortly after the morning peak, and are scheduled to stay in position until 5pm on Thursday 2 April.

Travellers have been advised to anticipate hold-ups throughout the vicinity while the signals remain operational.

By Tuesday morning, the inaugural rush hour following the installation, tailbacks were already stretching from the works location back toward Kidlington.
