Radiohead’s South Park Homecoming Concert Drew 40,000 Fans in 2001

Radiohead, the Oxfordshire-founded group, has been captured in numerous photographs taken throughout the county over several decades.

In summer 2001, roughly 40,000 supporters filled South Park to watch the hometown heroes deliver an unforgettable homecoming show.

The musicians first connected during their school years at Abingdon in the mid-1980s, subsequently releasing successful records including The Bends and OK Computer that propelled them to international fame.

The group expressed enthusiasm about returning to perform in their home region after achieving worldwide success.

The 2001 South Park show proved tremendously popular, featuring a two-hour performance. Lead vocalist Thom Yorke shared the stage with lead guitarist Jonny Greenwood, rhythm guitarist Ed O’Brien, drummer Philip Selway, and bassist Colin Greenwood.

The progressive rock act has since confirmed upcoming tour plans for 2027, though further dates for the current calendar year have not yet been revealed.
