The article discusses Greg James, a BBC Radio 1 presenter, who shared that he requested pain relief from fellow train passengers while travelling to his producer’s wedding in Oxford following his week-long charity cycling challenge.
The 40-year-old broadcaster completed a 1,000km tandem bicycle journey over eight days, generating more than £4m for Comic Relief.
The Prince of Wales accompanied him during portions of the route, and during last week’s televised Comic Relief broadcast, James noted that he had never held on more tightly.
James joked that had the Prince fallen off the tandem, it could have spelled disaster for the charity event.
Following the conclusion of the cycle at the weekend, the radio star appeared on Monday morning’s Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 1 to discuss the experience further.
He explained that he had made his way to producer Helena’s wedding in Oxford immediately after finishing the ride, even requesting Nurofen from other passengers on the train journey.
James stated that attending the event was significant as it marked the wedding of a close colleague.
He noted that the ceremony took place on Saturday in Oxford, and he simply made his way there by rail.
Co-presenter Matt Edmondson observed that there had been considerable doubt beforehand about whether James would actually manage to complete the challenge given that he had just spent eight consecutive days cycling.
James responded that he was determined to attend because Helena is exceptional and numerous Radio 1 colleagues were also present, making it an enjoyable occasion.
He described how a couple seated beside him on the train recognised him from television and enquired about his legs, at which point he actually asked them for pain relief medication.
Edmondson and fellow presenter Mollie King responded with laughter as James disclosed that he had also cycled to the railway station on the same morning.
