Broken-down vehicle on A423 Oxford cleared after delays

Published on

Traffic disruption was reported on the A423 Southern Bypass Road on Wednesday afternoon after a vehicle experienced mechanical failure.

The breakdown resulted in significant queuing traffic, with motorists advised to expect considerable journey extensions.

The AA monitoring service indicated delays of approximately ten minutes were building on the Littlemore Roundabout westbound carriageway, situated between the A4142 Eastern By-pass Road and the A423 Southern By-Pass Road near the Hinksey Hill junction. Traffic was moving at around ten miles per hour in the affected area.

Oxon Travel, the transportation service operated by Oxfordshire County Council, confirmed one lane had been obstructed by the stationary vehicle, leading to hold-ups for drivers. Authorities were notified and attended the scene.

A visual assessment revealed substantial tailbacks developing throughout the region as the stalled vehicle restricted road capacity.

By mid-afternoon, the broken-down car had been removed from the highway, allowing normal traffic conditions to resume. The incident was subsequently closed with normal traffic flow restored.
