Two optical retailers have received recognition for their commitment to serving their local communities.

Specsavers stores in Bicester and Witney, both independently operated, have been selected as finalists in the Community section of the Awards for Excellence.

These yearly accolades honour the accomplishments and standards of professionalism demonstrated by opticians throughout the UK and Ireland.

Satnam Johal, director at the Bicester branch, expressed enthusiasm about reaching the final three in the Community division, stating that acknowledgement from fellow professionals was particularly gratifying in a category that held significant meaning for the entire team. The group emphasised the dedication invested in ensuring they not only provided assistance to their local area but also actively participated within it. The store concluded 2025 positively by securing the Multiple Practice of the Year prize at the Opticians Awards and hoped to expand their collection of accolades.

Cathy Mullen, director at the Witney store, outlined their efforts including sponsorship of sports clubs, sustained community engagement over a decade, and complimentary sight tests for those without permanent accommodation. She noted their commitment to delivering top-quality eye and hearing care while also prioritising involvement beyond the confines of their premises. Reaching the shortlist represented an accomplishment in itself, and the team anticipated the ceremony with hopes of a successful outcome.

The recipients will be revealed in late March.
