Emergency services descended on a high-rise building in Oxford on Saturday evening as residents were forced to leave their apartments.

People were escorted from their dwellings following a blaze at Windrush Tower in the Blackbird Leys area during the night of March 21.

An unnamed witness told officials at approximately 11pm that two fire service appliances had arrived at the scene, with one firefighter seen entering the premises and additional crews probably already inside.

After the fire engines were spotted at the location, Oxford City Council issued a communication on the internet confirming the incident involved a minor fire that was promptly brought under control.

The council further stated that the building’s sprinkler network had kicked in and that no casualties occurred.

Fire crews from across the region rushed to the Oxford high-rise following emergency calls about the flames.

An Oxford City Council representative announced that a minor fire broke out in an apartment at Windrush Tower earlier that evening.

The flames were rapidly confined to the single flat once the building’s sprinkler mechanism engaged. No individuals suffered harm.

Those evacuated from the tower have since been permitted to return to their residences.

The council expressed gratitude to Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, partners at the city council and ODS for their swift response, and thanked local residents for their patience during the incident.

Thames Valley Police has since indicated the situation poses no concerns, while officials await a response from Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service.
