A series of temporary shutdowns are planned for various paths and highways throughout Oxfordshire.

The work involves infrastructure maintenance, safety issues, and upgrade schemes, according to public notices released by Oxfordshire County Council.

In Eynsham, footpath 206/7 will be shut temporarily from April 1, running from the Talbot Inn on the B4044 Oxford Road to Wharf Stream.

The shutdown is required to enable pressure testing connected to Siemens equipment being conducted near the path.

The project is anticipated to finish by July 31.

No alternative route exists, and the closure will not impede emergency services or pedestrian entry to homes accessible only from the blocked section.

Another extended closure impacts the path between Rushey and Shifford locks near Chimney.

This path has been shut since September 19, 2025, because a footbridge is in poor condition.

Repairs have been postponed due to persistent flooding, making it unsafe to transport materials or reach the bridge.

Replacement of broken timber parapets was advised after an inspection, but the task cannot be completed safely until conditions improve.

The closure is now anticipated to remain until September 2026.

Emergency services and entry to homes will be preserved.

A marked detour is available using a parallel route to the south.

The Transport Secretary has approved an extension of the order until September 18, or until repairs are done, whichever occurs first.

Temporary traffic orders also apply or are scheduled for planned highway work in Faringdon, Benson, Abingdon, Chinnor, and Radley.

In Faringdon, Sands Hill will be shut around the clock from Park Road to the end of Sands Hill until June 19 to allow for infrastructure, drainage, and surface works.

In Benson, Hale Road will be shut between the junctions with Sands Way and Sunnyside for two months while a new 500-metre sewer pipe is laid.

A diversion route will operate via the B4009, Watlington Road, The Sands, and Gerards Avenue.

Abingdon’s A415 Bridge Street was shut on March 16 and will stay closed until March 21 for overnight work examining the bridge structure for reinforcement.

The closure will run from 10pm to 5.30am.

Only pedestrian entry will be available during this period.

In Chinnor, the B4009 Lower Icknield Way will be shut between the High Street and Wainhill Road for resurfacing.

The work will occur from 8pm to 6am until March 27.

A marked detour will be available.

Another closure will happen in Lower Radley for sewer relining work.

The road will be shut from No.57 to the railway overbridge until April 6, between 7.30am and 5.30pm, Monday to Saturday.

Entry to homes will be preserved, and the detour will use the curved road past Lower Farm.

A path in Steventon (No. 366/8/10) remains shut southwest of Mill Street due to urgent bridge replacement.

The closure will apply initially for 6 months and may be prolonged with Transport Secretary approval.

Pedestrians can use Bridleway No. 366/11/10, Mill Street, and Church Lane as a substitute route.

All closures contain exemptions for emergency services, essential work, and entry to homes or properties only accessible via the affected paths or roads.
