A primary care shortfall will affect Carterton when a GP practice branch shuts its doors in April.

Bampton Medical Practice has maintained a satellite location at the Carterton Health Centre for over three decades, but will cease providing services from next month.

Clinics at the Carterton branch will cease operating on Friday, April 10.

According to Bampton Medical Practice, patient care remains their top priority despite the transition. The practice is actively seeking alternative accommodation within Carterton to maintain local healthcare access. A temporary interruption in services is expected between vacating the Carterton Health Centre and relocating to the new facility. The length of this pause in provision has not yet been determined, though officials suggest it may extend through much of 2025.

Individuals registered with Bampton Medical Practice who typically visit the Carterton branch may still receive treatment at the main location in Landells, Bampton. A Pulhams Coaches bus service, route 19, connects Carterton town centre with Bampton and stops adjacent to the Landells surgery.

Practice representatives emphasised that abandoning the Carterton area entirely was never their intention. The team continues to collaborate with the regional Integrated Care Board to facilitate their establishment in new Carterton premises.
