Jury inquest for tree surgeon Jonty Parkinson postponed without date set

The coroner’s court in Oxford had been due to hold a jury inquest on Monday, March 23 into the death of a young tree surgeon, however the hearing has been put off with no new date currently arranged.

Jonty Parkinson was 18 years old when he passed away at Eaton Hastings on September 6, 2024.

The teenager originated from Coln St Aldwyns near Cirencester. While working professionally as a tree surgeon, he was hit by a falling tree. A post-mortem examination determined the cause of death was a crush injury to the abdomen.

The young man was related to former Match of the Day presenter and England legend Gary Lineker through Lineker’s first marriage to Michelle, being the nephew-in-law of the famous footballer.

Following Jonty’s death, Lineker’s children publicly honoured their relative on social media. George shared an Instagram story featuring a childhood photograph of himself and Jonty, describing him as one of the nicest boys anyone would ever meet, taken far too soon, and saying he should fly high and would be missed by everyone.

Tobias, 30, also posted a boyhood picture of his smiling cousin alongside a message expressing that he was taken from them far too soon and wishing him eternal rest.

A crowdfunding page raised more than £30,000 for Jonty’s family.
