A preparatory institution near Abingdon has earned a place among the globe’s most distinguished private schools.

Cothill Prep School has been included in the prestigious Spears Schools Index, which celebrates educational excellence worldwide.

The establishment, which educates children between seven and thirteen years of age through both day and boarding arrangements, stands among merely 23 British preparatory schools represented on the respected international compilation.

The index was assembled by Spear’s in partnership with Thuso alongside a panel of independent education specialists.

The ranking identifies institutions demonstrating outstanding academic provision, innovative practices, and comprehensive pupil development.

A spokesperson for the school commented that the honour reflects Cothill’s ongoing dedication to delivering holistic, progressive education while cultivating the individual talents and moral character of each student.

The institution expressed considerable pride in securing recognition at such an elevated international level alongside renowned educational establishments, with particular satisfaction regarding acknowledgement of its caring ethos.

The school conveyed appreciation to its committed educators, co-operative families, and motivated pupils, whose collective contributions sustain the institution’s vitality and success.

Last month, the school, previously operating under the name Cothill House, received the designation of Great for Sport alongside Runner-Up status for Great for SEND within The Week magazine’s Best of the Best Prep Schools awards.

Headteacher George May remarked at that time that the Sports and SEND departments had much reason for celebration.

He noted the considerable effort invested by staff in securing optimal results for students and expressed satisfaction that external acknowledgement had arrived for efforts long recognised internally.

He cited the recent inspection’s positive findings regarding boarding facilities and academic achievement as further grounds for pride in the institution’s multifaceted strengths.

Mr May assumed leadership of Cothill in 2023 after serving 17 years at Radley College in the capacity of senior housemaster.

His academic credentials include a first-class qualification in architectural history from the University of Edinburgh.

He resides at Cothill with his spouse Emi-Lou, who works as a writer and educator, and their four children.

During the previous year, Chandlings Prep located in Kennington and Cothill joined the Radley Schools Group, alongside Radley School itself.
