A traffic collision occurred on the A40 Elsfield Way in the westbound direction towards Cutteslowe Roundabout.

Thames Valley Police Road Policing officers attended the scene.

Motorists were advised to allow additional travel time due to the incident.

Significant congestion was reported on the A40 at Cassington.

According to traffic organisation the AA, queueing traffic extended for approximately two miles in both directions near Durham Lane at the Cassington Traffic Lights junction.

The backlog of vehicles stretched as far as Eynsham in one direction and back towards Wolvercote Roundabout in the other, with the construction zone adding to the hold-ups.

Roadworks on the A40 Northern Bypass Road near Cassington were also generating delays in both carriageways.

However, the situation gradually improved as the evening progressed, with normal traffic flow resuming along the affected stretch of road.
